What is a grid?

In Vertical Mapper, a grid is a lattice of square cells that are geographically referenced to a location on the earth. Each cell has a color representing a value.

How does each cell obtain a value?

There are three basic steps involved in transforming points into a continuous grid surface of values.

Before you begin, the point file must have a numeric attribute for each point location, such as soil chemistry values, field strength levels, or the number of crimes committed.
A grid of empty cells is spatially overlaid on the point file.
Each cell is attributed with a value calculated from the surrounding points.
