Interpolation is the process of estimating grid cell values based upon surrounding data points, which produces a grid that has the same data units as the original point data. For example, a point file with elevation as the attribute information will produce a grid where the units of both the data points and the grid are in meter. A point file of average family income will produce a grid that represents income levels where the units of both the data points and the grid are in dollars.
